Rules wise there are some significant differences, and of course with combat Sambo there is a more natural transition / mentality with a more open rule system.

Also, Sambo kid was much bigger and was doing better, but towards the end the Judo guy seems to regain the upper hand. Wanted thoughts on this.

Mar 12, 2018 · Catch Wrestling is essentially folk style with submissions (because folkstyle is literally just catch with submissions removed) so I'd say it's the best base for physically controlling and tapping out opponents. Sakuraba is obviously the best example. I'd say that sambo is the next best, especially with combat sambo, followed by BJJ.

Mar 27, 2014 · I'm curious how people compare Sambo and Catch Wrestling to BJJ from an effectiveness standpoint. Josh Barnett seems to have trained at least some form of catch wrestling under Erik Paulson and it looks like a highly effective grappling style. Also with the success of Fedor and Khabib it makes me wonder whether Sambo is a superior grappling base.
