A.J. Meerwald, later known as Clyde A. Phillips, is a restored dredging oyster schooner, whose home port is in the Bivalve section of Commercial Township in Cumberland County, New Jersey.

This authentically restored 1928 Delaware Bay oyster schooner sails from her homeport of Bivalve, New Jersey as well as annual visits to cities and coastal towns throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware and occasional special trips into the Chesapeake Bay.

Jun 21, 2024 · New Jersey’s official Tall Ship, A.J. Meerwald will have two official port stops in Cape May this summer. She will sail from the Cape May Ferry Terminal, in partnership with the Delaware River & Bay Authority. The first visit will be from Wednesday, June 26 - Sunday July 7.

Come see our boat! Explore the A.J. Meerwald, a 1928 Oyster Schooner that is used as a floating classroom for the Bayshore Center at Bivalve. The boat is 115′ feet long and 70′ feet tall with two masts and three sails.

Launched in 1928, the A. J. Meerwald was one of hundreds of schooners built along South Jersey’s Delaware Bay shore before the decline of the shipbuilding industry that coincided with the Great Depression.

The schooner A. J. Meerwald is New Jersey’s official tall ship. She is a restored two-masted oyster dredging schooner, 115 feet overall, 85 feet on deck, and has a 23-foot beam. Her home port is in Bivalve, Commercial Township, New Jersey.
