A shadow of a bully who pushed Apu and caused him to fall and spill his food is falling upon Apu's face (image shown below).

Aug 28, 2021 · Pepe walks home in pouring rain, to return with his SonyBox 64 dead. At this point, Pepe doesn't show any emotion on his face. He uses his drawing tablet to create art of a happier self (thus explaining why he remained anonymous), goes to sleep, and wakes up with a sad face at work. MORE!!!

At some point, someone drew their own version of Pepe, looking sad. This one was accompanied by "feels bad man", for contrast. I suspect this is the point where the Pepe frog stopped being simply "feels good man"; people realized the character had some inherent emotive and sympathetic value.
