Aug 30, 2010 · I think I've seen 'Sabre' knives on the auction site from Ireland, Taiwan/China and Japan, at least. My dad used to have an old Japan-made Sabre fishing knife, most likely '70s vintage. I suspect it's one of those brands that's been bought/sold (in name only) many, many times, and may not reveal much about the quality of a particular knife ...

Feb 8, 2013 · Found an older sabre Japan original Bowie at a flea market awhile back and am refinishing it. Does anyone have any information on the steel used? When I wet formed the sheath some water got in the wrap on the blade and it started rusting in a few spots, no biggie as I want to put a patina on the blade if possible.

Full flat grind -vs- saber grind - BladeForums.com
Dec 26, 2012 · I prefer a sabre grind. I feel they are stronger-period. For me, yes, it is that simple. Some will say a ffg is more slicey. Remember, that is a 1/4" thick blade, so it will NEVER slice quite as good as a sushi knife. What i do, if i want more slice-ability from my big thick choppers, is to thin the edge on my cheap a** H Freight belt sander.

Is a scandi grind or a saber grind stronger? | BladeForums.com
Apr 24, 2009 · My experience is that the Scandi can be the better cutter/slicer. I always assumed it was due to the flat grind geometry as opposed to saber. I usually sharpen them accordingly, more of an "axe" edge on the sabre grinds and finer, sharper, folder-grade edge on the Scandis. Ideal set for me is a sabre ground leuku with a Scandi puuku.
Photos Help identifying Alex Coppel Solingen Sabre
Jun 26, 2016 · Hey guys, I had a local bike mechanic give me this blade to look over for advice. He received this blade from a friend many years ago and wanted to return as a gift in better condition. He said he thinks it's a sword from the 1870's or so. I did some cursory research into the markings without...
Best blade grind for Bowie knife? | BladeForums.com
May 11, 2022 · Sabre grinds look sexy & are sturdier, but wont slice as well as full flat. Your call entirely. Hollow doesn't have to be fragile at all, depends on the thickness of the steel behind the V bevel & how aggressive the hollow grind is. A high sabre in combination with a subtle hollow is a great combination in my opinion.
