This is a list of the Pokémon from the Galar region in Pokémon Sword & Shield.As usual there are many new Pokémon, but the region also includes old favorites too! Sword & Shield differ from previous games in that only Pokémon from the Galar Pokédex can be found in the game.

The player is a young child who lives with their mother in the town of Postwick in the Galar region.One day, the player's friend Hop invites them to meet his big brother Leon, the Champion of the Galar League, so that they both can receive a first partner Pokémon from him. After receiving their first partner Pokémon, the player and Hop follow a runaway Wooloo into the Slumbering Weald.

Pokémon progresses into its eighth generation with Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield on Nintendo Switch. Ishihara previously stated that Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee were intended to be played as home console games, with Sword & Shield as handheld games like previous main series installments.
