This Fender Stratocaster was used by Stevie Ray Vaughan for much of his career. Dubbed "Number One" and "First Wife" by Stevie, the guitar was used on all of Double Trouble's studio albums. Stevie Ray acquired the guitar from the owner of an Austin, Texas music shop in 1973.

Number One was Stevie Ray Vaughan’s favorite Stratocaster; it had a round lam Brazilian rosewood fretboard with body dated 1963 and neck 1962, which the musician had purchased in 1973 at Ray Hennig Heart of Texas Music in Austin.

Number One suffered damages to the neck, and Fender quickly provided a brand new one for Stevie. The guitars were basically holding the baffle up. It took a bunch of us to lift the thing off the guitars, and of course, the first guitar I checked on was Number One.

Vaughan acquired the Stratocaster, built from a 1963 body with a 1962 neck and 1959 pickups, from Ray Hennig’s Heart of Texas music store in 1974 and modified it with a black pickguard featuring his initials.
