The EMD GP7 is a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and General Motors Diesel between October 1949 and May 1954. [2] The GP7 was the first EMD road locomotive to use a hood unit design instead of a car-body design.

Mar 14, 2015 · I wanted to know how the late model GP 7's and 9's [2000 to now] run with the newer Pull-more motors. I see some sets that are are here with these in them. Do they have any pulling power ? If one could pull 8 - 10 cars I would be happy. I am thinking about picking up a 2008 NOS loco RTR set and want to know if these late model loco's are any good.

In order to differentiate between the two types of air brake equipment, the model designations IGP7L" or IGP7R" are used. The GP7L is equipped with 6 BL (USA) or 6 SL (Canadian) brake equipment while the GP7R is equipped with 24 RL brake equipment.

These 1500-horsepower high-nose hood units were built 1950-1954 by EMD. Originally delivered in the black & silver (or was it black & white & silver? click here or here) "zebra stripe" livery, they were subsequently repainted into the blue & yellow "pinstripe" or "bookend" livery during the early 1960s (click here for two examples from 1965).
