In a nutshell, a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) is a motor installed in the Nikon lens which helps focus faster and without making appreciable noise. Feb 11, 2014 · My 28-70 2.8 gets stuck at infinity and is stiff from infinity to 3 meters. This happens in manual AND autofocus. What I'm wondering is, is this the SWM or something else mechanical? Also, in the section of focus that's not stiff, the camera mechanically tries to focus, but the image never actually focuses, but is just out of focus.
