290 kN (65,000 lb f) (Rc4) The Rc class is the most used electric locomotive in Sweden . Built by Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA) , the Rc is a universal locomotive used both in freight and passenger trains.

Rc4-loken levererades i SJ:s klassiska orange färgsättning med vita linjer. Från mitten av 1990-talet målades en del av loken om i SJ:s nya blå färg, men flera av loken hade kvar sin orange färg vid Green Cargos övertagande av loken 2001.

The locomotive is a derivative of the Swedish SJ Rc4 designed for passenger service in the United States. The primary customer was Amtrak, which bought 54 for use on the Northeast Corridor and Keystone Corridor. Two commuter operators, MARC and SEPTA, also purchased locomotives, for a total of 65.

Rc1 - Rc4 är i stort sett lika till det yttre, medan Rc5 och Rc6 har större luftintag längs taket och annorlunda vindrutor med metallinfattning, samt annorlunda boggier. Sent levererade Rc6 fick UIC-kontakter under vänster frontruta. Samtliga Rc går att multipelkoppla med varandra.

Rc1, Rc2, Rc4, and Rc5 have a maximum allowed speed of 135 km/h. Rc3 and Rc6 have a maximum allowed speed of 160 km/h. Rc7 was a rebuild of Rc6 meant to haul replacement trains needed when the X 2000 trains were canceled or delayed.

Jul 6, 2018 · The first to arrive, in August 1976, was brand-new SJ Rc4 electric loco, Rc4 1166, built by Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget (ASEA). This was painted in Amtrak livery and numbered X995. Until April 1977, it was tested on the Northeast Corridor between New York and Washington DC at up to 200km/h.

During the end of the 1970´s and the beginning of the 1980´s the fourth series of Rc-locomotives was produced and delivered. General improvments were done. The Rc4-locomotives weigh slightly more: 78,0 tonnes. The max speed was the same as the Rc1-2-locos, 135 kph.
