The carbody of the SD40-2 is only a couple of feet onger than the carbody of the GP40-2. The length is not where you expect it. It is not between the engine air intake and the radiators, it is between the cab and the engine air intake. Don't let the extra dynamic brake fan throw you off, count the doors.

Sep 9, 2023 · I'd give it greater odds of producing amperage again than the machines behind it. I have high hopes that the railfan community will eventually develop enough sentimentality about widenose GE's to save a few before the earliest examples are all gone, but that probably won't happen while Wabtec is still producing units that, at a glance, look almost the same (of course, …
Replacing Couplers on Scale Trains SD40-2 - Trainorders.com
I replaced the ScaleTrains couplers, on my Chessie unit, with Kadee #158 scale head whisker couplers. Why would railroads order SD40-2s without dynamic brake
The discussion of the suitability of a non-dynamic braked SD40-2 for a RR museum in the mountains got me thinking. Suppose you start with a GP40-2 with no dynamic breaks. Then, you consider the two "upgrades:" 1. Dynamic brakes are mainly for train handl
