First in the World to Serve Airbus A380. On 25 October 2007, SATS was the first ground handling company in the world to handle the new Airbus A380 superjumbo on its inaugural flight from Singapore to Sydney.

The Airbus A380 features two full-length decks, each measuring 49.9 metres (164 ft). The upper deck has a slightly shorter usable length of 44.93 metres (147.4 ft) due to the front fuselage curvature and the staircase. The widths of the main deck and upper deck are 6.50 metres (21.3 ft) and 5.80 metres (19.0 ft) respectively.

SATS, the ground handling company in Singapore has put up some interesting comparisons to what it faces with handling A380 in service, as compared to the B747 that will eventually be replaced. SIA A380 (for now) features 471 seats as compared to a B747-400 with 375 seats.

Emirates operates three versions of the A380 with slightly different configurations. This version has fewer Economy Class seats. To verify the correct version of the A380 at the time of booking or at online check-in, the follow rows may be used as reference: Economy begins at row 43 on the main deck; Business Class ends at row 26 on the upper deck.

Lufthansa flies this version of their Airbus A380-800 in a four class configuration with 8 First Class open suites, 78 flat bed Business Class seats, 52 Premium Economy seats, and 371 standard Economy seats.

With only three seats across the huge A380, you get a major chunk of beautifully furnished real estate. Alas, so much of the mini cabin is taken by storage compartments that the space left for the seat itself is a bit smaller than Cathay s 777 first class seat.
