PCM vs AUTO vs SPDIF - AVS Forum
Sep 11, 2023 · Over S/PDIF, PCM is always Stereo (2.0) no matter the incoming format. "S/PDIF is based on the AES3 interconnect standard. S/PDIF can carry two channels of uncompressed PCM audio or compressed 5.1 surround sound (such as DTS audio codec or Dolby Digital codec); it cannot support lossless surround formats that require greater bandwidth.
S/PDIF max bitrate? - AVS Forum
Jan 7, 2008 · Hard to say. DTS is 1.5Mbs if I recall, and that makes it the highest bitrate I know of over S/PDIF. There's also DTS 96/24, but I assume it has the same max of 1.5Mbs. It does't so much matter what the theoretical bittate is over S/PDIF, because it could be higher. The real world max bitrate is determined by what the associated standards are.
HDMI vs. S/PDIF Audio Faceoff - AVS Forum
Feb 17, 2011 · The maximum S/PDIF capacity is 96 KHz at 20bits with 24 bits optional for two channels. HDMI supports up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio at sample sizes of 16-bit, 20-bit, and 24-bit, with sample rates of 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, 48 …
How is PCM converted to S/PDIF? - AVS Forum
Mar 12, 2012 · S/PDIF and AES, on the other hand, is a serial protocol that embeds the PCM data into packets to be sent with additional information. The packets contain up to 24-bits of stereo PCM data, as well as status and user-data.
S/PDIF cables with great value? - What’s Best Forum
Aug 28, 2019 · I'm working on a new website that will have a lot of new products and changes, the S/PDIF will now be a 1.5m minimum and come with your choice of WBT 0102 AG with the carbon fiber dampers shown in the review or Furutech BNC plugs for a slightly lower cost.
true 7.1 high def sound from SPDIF? - AVS Forum
Jul 14, 2008 · I played Stargate (Blu Ray), which also has a DTS-HD MA track. My amp said it was receiving DTS-ES Discrete 6.1. So, the other post was right about receiving the core track over S/PDIF, not the entire lossless HD audio stream. BW
Coaxial vs Optical S/PDIF bandwidth - AVS Forum
Jan 22, 2007 · Optical has a much higher bandwidth, but the optical Toslink connectors on audio products are converted from the signal that gets sent over a coaxial digital audio cable, so if anything will have more jitter and other problems due to the conversion to optical and back.
HOWTO: Make a coax SPDIF output bracket - AVS Forum
Feb 20, 2008 · Standard audio interconnect cables will work for transmitting S/PDIF over short distances, but anything over 0.5 metre or so should use 75 ohm cable. The unloaded signal is nominally +/-0.5V and must be terminated with 75 ohms on the receiving end - the resulting signal is +/-0.25V when terminated.
TrueHD or DTS-HD over S/PDIF? - AVS Forum
Jul 16, 2012 · The Windows 8 AMD ATI HDMI audio driver isn't working, so I'm trying S/PDIF (optical). I'm getting DD5.1 and DTS to work, but not TrueHD or DTS-HD MA. I've read that other Pioneer receivers needed these signals to go over HDMI, but I …
Bitstream/S/PDIF-in to PCM/S/PDIF-out converter - AVS Forum
Feb 25, 2016 · S/PDIF doesn't officially support DD+ or DTrueHD, so that's never gonna happen. But as for S/PDIF Bitsreamed DD to S/PDIF PCM, the cheapest option might just be to plug one of these into whatever device it is. (most devices with S/PDIF input also have an RCA input) BTW, giving background info on your situation helps other AVSers help you.
