S&W 686 Ammo recommendation - Smith & Wesson Forum
Aug 22, 2012 · I am happy to own a S&W 686 4" I am not exactly an expert when it comes to specifics of ammo means, as far as the bullet weight, grains etc... What I am looking for is a good, somewhat cheap, all around plinking ammo. I am looking for .38 as well as .357, as I would like to get used to both. Also, any info on using jacketed, non jacketed, etc.
686+ frame size and round or Square butt - smith-wessonforum.com
Aug 21, 2020 · The square butt was dropped from the 686 in 1996. All 686+ are round butt. The 686+ 7 shot was introduced in 1996. Altamont grips are very good and have a wide selection. Robertson Trading Post has Herrett conversion grips for S&W K frame for sale at $33.00. K and L Smiths have the same grip size. These are what I have on my 686-6.
686 Trigger Pulls - Smith & Wesson Forum
Feb 2, 2015 · S&W revolvers have a lockwork that is VERY easy to work on and "tune". In addition the single action trigger on a typical S&W revolver is nothing short of superb. I've actually measured the sear creep in single action on several of my S&W revolvers and it ranges between 0.015 inch and 0.017 inch.
686 5'' pro series sight replacement - smith-wessonforum.com
Feb 27, 2011 · I just bought a 686 5'' pro series. I did not like the "all black sights" on the front and the back. I was thinking possibly putting a gold bead front site, but i had no idea where to purchase one. which sight is the proper replacement. do i have a "pin-in"? front sight?
Can anyone tell me the serial numbers for a 1986 686?
Jun 14, 2023 · Every example you can find will show a four digit date code under the heading that says SPEC ORDER. The first digit is the last digit of the year. So if you see a picture of a S&W 686 that is a no-dash or a dash-1, and the SPEC ORDER number has a 6 for the first digit, that is a 1986 produced revolver.
US Customs Service 686 CS-1 - Smith & Wesson Forum
May 11, 2013 · S&W produced 3200 additional 686 CS-1s - 1600 3 inch and 1600 4 inch and released them directly into public distribution. So not counting the 3200 "overun" guns released, there is a discrepancy of 850 between the Jinks letter number and the 8700 number.
Clocked/canted barrel on 686--this is how I fixed it
Dec 13, 2018 · Lately, S&W says that a barrel-cylinder gap of as much as 0.012" is "in specification". In the old days it would be wildly out of spec by the older S&W standards. Truth be told, you don't really loose all that much velocity with the wider gap.
Smith & Wesson Forum - 686-6 Firing Pin Bushing Replacement …
Dec 27, 2011 · ok.. yet another update.. got the return label on the Dec.7th and sent it off on the 8th.. got a letter from S&W on the 17th stating that they received my handgun and to expect it to be returned in 2-3 weeks.... and just a few hours ago.. got a call from FedEx that my 686 is on it's way and will be delivered tomorrow!!
686 vs. 27 vs. 66 vs. 19 - How do they compare and what's S&W's …
Oct 26, 2015 · Actually, S&W did make a 686 without a full lug AND with a tapered barrel it was the 686 Mtn Gun. They are hard to find. I have owned or do own all the 357s. Of them all, the 686 Mtn Gun is the one I would never part with. I suspect other owners feel the same probably the reason they are hard to find !! _____
