Rowachol is a potent choleretic agent, comprising six cyclic monoterpenes. This study aimed to investigate the clinical improvement and changes in gallbladder ejection fraction (GBEF) by Rowachol treatment in patients with typical biliary pain.

Rowachol (Tillotts) is a mixture of monoterpenes intended for the dissolution of cholesterol gallstones, as an adjunct to the existing drugs chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) and ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) whose use we discussed last month.1 When combined with CDCA, Rowachol is claimed to dissolve stones in the common duct.

In a dose of two capsules, three times a day for only 48 hours, Rowachol significantly lowered the cholesterol solubility of both gall bladder (P less than 0.001) and T-tube bile (P less than 0.05).
