Nov 30, 2023 · Just joined the forum. I'm going to go and check out this older Roper 16T on Sunday and was wondering if there's anything I should focus on. It's a little rusty cosmetically, but if it has good bones I'd really like to pick it up and eventually restore it.

Nov 15, 2016 · The 16T is essentially identical to the Sears SS-16 (made by Roper) so most parts are common. I suggest you download the SS-16 manuals from that site and compare part numbers. It should make parts easier to find on eBay or other sites because they are usually listed as coming from the more available Sears tractors.

Dec 5, 2011 · Roper 16T. It was in a little worse cond. than I was hoping but I wanted it mainly for the attachments anyway. It has a 16 hp briggs twin, currently stuck, and a spin on oil filter mounted to the firewall with oil lines going to the block by the drive pulley.

Sep 9, 2013 · I've got an old Roper 16t lawn tractor, growing up I cut grass for countless hours with it. Back then, I remember putting the mower deck handle all the way down for the back 1/2 acre grass area, but up around the house we'd pull it up one notch. When not cutting grass, the lever was all the way back and it really raised the deck high up.

Jun 7, 2014 · Not positive about a Roper but every round top deck (like yours) I've seen takes a 1/2 by 87 belt sometimes sized as "A-85". Just replaced that belt in 2 decks like yours. And check the maintenance schedule, some say to grease the mandrels daily. Your problem also could be the idler that keeps that belt under the cover tight.

Mar 7, 2017 · Depending on the transmission it could be a Roper RT-16T T633 with "hydro-drive" transmission or T632 with 3 speed hi/lo geared transmission circa 1976. The T632 is very similar to the Sears SS-16 made by Roper. It is a real work horse with many available accessories including a loader (hard to find and pricey).
