I know in 2001 ish when I was a second year apprentice 12 became yellow and 10 orange. 8 and 6 were black. I see a lot of black romex in remodel, not just the 1940s "rag wire" but modern style black sheathed romex.

Jan 16, 2021 · A lot depends if its the old style NM cable or the newest tyle NMB that came out in early in 1980's. The NMB insulation always appeared to be type THWN which in dry locations good for think 105 degrees C. Old style NM cable always appeared to be type TW insulation.

Sep 30, 2009 · I always thought 12/2 romex had a #12 ground and 14/2 had a #14 ground. I was told at a seminar that 12/2 has a #14 ground and 14/2 has a #16 ground. Is this correct? They look the same size to me and my strippers.

Mar 9, 2018 · Hey guys. I know romex is nm-b but what temperature wire type is the actual conductor. Is it thh type for high heat? I know it doesn’t have a nylon jacket so it isn’t thhn. I think it derates at 90 degrees but wanted some expert input. Thanks.

Aug 6, 2014 · Please point me to an article stating I should only megger Romex at 500vdc. I regularly megger 480v motors and thhn at 1000vdc. With Romex rated at 600v just like thhn why would I test it any differently just because it only carries 120v or 240v in a dwelling? Obviously you can find problems at 1000vdc that don't seem like problems at 500vdc.

There are a lot of times where the extra blue wire would be helpful, such as running a hot, neutral, and two travelers in a 3-way and 4-way switch circuit. Home Depot sells a 250' roll of what they call 12-2-2, which also has 5 conductors.
