Roger Smith is the main protagonist of "The Big O". A former officer in Paradigm City's Military Police, Roger resigned and took up work as the city's premiere freelance negotiator, mediating disputes, and resolving conflicts between various parties for a fee.

Roger Smith is the main protagonist and narrator of the anime series The Big O. His chosen profession is as a negotiator, whose job entails finding a resolution for the troubles of Paradigm City, the "City of Amnesia", and is said to be the absolute best at what he does.

The series follows Roger Smith, Paradigm City's top Negotiator. He provides this "much needed service" with the help of a robot named R. Dorothy Wayneright and his butler Norman Burg. When the need arises, Roger calls upon Big O, a giant relic from the city's past.

Big O (ビッグオー) is a Megadeus piloted by Roger Smith. Roger summons the Megadeus by calling its name into his wristwatch, and declaring it's "showtime". At times, Big O appears to have a mind of its own.
