Rita Duffy (born 1959) is a Northern Ireland artist, described in 2005 as the province's "foremost artist". [1] She describes herself as a Republican, pacifist and feminist.

Dec 12, 2023 · Duffy is still an active artist today: her most recent exhibition, Persistent Illusion featured three large-scale works that present themes of planetary crisis and political chaos and finished its showing at Cork’s Crawford Gallery at the end of October.

For her first solo exhibition at Crawford Art Gallery, artist Rita Duffy presents a trilogy of new, largescale works that address urgent themes of planetary crisis and political chaos.

Rita Duffy was born in 1959 in Belfast. She received her BA at the Art and Design Centre and her MA in Fine Art at the University of Ulster. She is one of Northern Ireland’s groundbreaking artsist who began her work concentrating primarily on the figurative/narrative tradition.

Artist in Residence at Public Records Office, N. Ireland, delivering `Witnesses’ a permanent, integrated artwork series for the new building completed in 2011.

She was mainly a figurative and narrative artist, whose pictures were often autobiographical, including themes and images of Irish identity, history and politics.

Born in Belfast, Rita Duffy attended the Art and Design Centre and the University of Ulster. Her art is often autobiographical, and reflects on Irish identity, history and politics. Duffy was awarded the Gold Medal, Royal Ulster Academy of Arts in 2006.
