The Batchworth Canal Centre is alongside the Grand Union lock, near the junction of the A404 and A4145 roads. This is the home of the Rickmansworth Waterways Trust who run a visitors centre, a working heritage boat, a small outdoor cafe and co-ordination of the annual Rickmansworth Canal Festival.

The Salters Cut (Gasworks Arm/River Chess) Rickmansworth
The firm’s director, Stephen Salter, paid for the river to be canalised. This was the course of the River Chess, deepened and widened, to permit boats to reach the brewery. Known as Salter’s Cut, invariably it was later extended to what became known as Rickmansworth Wharf.
Rickmansworth River, Lakes and Canal Walk Route
The town of Rickmansworth is ideally situated for some lovely waterside walking. This circular walk takes you along the Grand Union Canal, the River Colne, Stocker's Lake and Batchworth Lake. On the way there's rushing weirs, narrowboats and lots of wildlife to see on the lakes.
