There are some exceptions, there are always exceptions, but we begin to see widespread use of the ricasso during the renaissance when fighting styles began to favor more accurate thrusting, and fingers started coming around to the front of a guard.
What is the proper terminology for this ricasso?

My main issue is grinding away my clean plunge line and destroying a clean ricasso. Newbie moves I know. Chevy do all chev guys have to use red on the cool things? Lol looks good man.
How do you protect your blade during construction?
Dec 8, 2019 · Like you my blade is finished at the point I start the scales. I always finish the front part of the scales (at the ricasso) completely before permanently mounted them. As of late I have not had any sudden scratches pop up. But you have to make sure you protect the blade even with the protective tape wrapper.

Sep 17, 2015 · I tape up the blade and ricasso to help my inexperience keep from messing up the finish. Then finally using a magnet to hold the blade, I grind the tang lengthwise on the platen until I have the taper I desire on both sides. You can now touch up the ricasso if you need to.

Oct 22, 2009 · Flats, center line the blade. Always give yourself a set point that is repeatable to return to. I grind the ricasso flat, even up the sides, scribe a center line on top, do the plunges. Grind to about 90%, at 600 belt. Throw on the clay, heat treat and then do final.
