Волга је најдужа река у Европи. [7] . Она припада затвореном сливу Каспијског језера, при чему је она најдужа река тог слива. Река извире у Валдајском побрђу 225 m изнад нивоа мора северозападно од Москве и око 320 km југоисточно од Санкт Петербургa.
