Feb 23, 2017 · Dawson first raced the Camaro in the 1971/72 season, painted a beautiful metallic gold and sponsored by Kensington Carpets. It remained much the same other than mechanical upgrades until a sponsor change came for the 1974/75 season when it was repainted in red/white Marlboro colours.

Jan 26, 2012 · Far from a typical motor racing hero, the gruff and tuff Red cut a most unusual figure for circuit racing.

Red was often brilliant in the Mustang and it was eventually replaced by the golden Kensington Carpets Z-28 Camaro which later became the Marlboro car. Red really had the bit between his teeth and the Camaro was replaced by his last racing saloon — the Dekon Chevrolet Monza.

Jul 29, 2011 · Red Dawson's Shelby Mustang (#35) suffered piston failure at the final championship round in practice, so Dawson's good friend John Riley loaned him his own Mustang for the race. Dawson then jumped the start, and was later penalised, but used his persuasive powers to eventually overturn the decision, and thus he and Coppins were joint champions.

Jun 24, 2021 · Following a sluggish getaway in Heat 2, where he dropped down to sixth, Coppins surged back through the pack to catch leader Dawson. The pair took turns leading, but the Camaro had it over the Mustang and scored the win.
