CCL5 - Wikipedia
Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 5 (also CCL5) is a protein which in humans is encoded by the CCL5 gene. [5] . The gene has been discovered in 1990 by in situ hybridisation and it is localised on 17q11.2-q12 chromosome. [6] It is also known as RANTES (r egulated on a ctivation, n ormal T -cell e xpressed and s ecreted).
RANTES - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
RANTES (regulated on activation, normal T cell expressed and secreted), one of the natural ligands for CCR5, is a broadly active inhibitor of macrophage infection by R5 HIV-1 isolates.

RANTES (regulated upon activation, normal T cell expressed and secreted [also known as CCL5]) is a model chemokine of relevance to a myriad of diseases. Regulation of RANTES expression is complex. In fibroblasts and monocytes, rel proteins alone …

Here we report that in experimental studies RANTES and MCP-1 provoke mast cell activation and increase histidine decarboxylase mRNA expression in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, injections of RANTES and MCP-1 in the rat skin cause mast cell, eosinophil, and macrophage recruitment, and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) generation.
RANTES: a versatile and controversial chemokine - PubMed
The activity of the chemokine RANTES is not restricted merely to chemotaxis. It is a powerful leukocyte activator, a feature potentially relevant in a range of inflammatory disorders. RANTES has attracted attention because it can potently suppress and, in some circumstances, enhance HIV replication. …

RANTES - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
RANTES is a CC chemokine expressed late in allografts following transplantation that binds CCR1 and CCR5 on T cells, NK cells and macrophages. RANTES is expressed in rat lung and mouse heart and skin allografts but not in isografts [25].

A Role for the Chemokine RANTES in Regulating CD8 T Cell
Jul 21, 2011 · RANTES (CCL5) is a chemokine expressed by many hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cell types that plays an important role in homing and migration of effector and memory T cells during acute infections. The RANTES receptor, CCR5, is a major target of anti-HIV drugs based on blocking viral entry.
