Brazil designates some of the world´s largest wetlands, from the Amazon basin to the island reefs

Sep 5, 2024 · Desde sua adesão à Convenção, o Brasil promoveu a inclusão de vinte e sete (27) Sítios na Lista de Ramsar, sendo vinte e quatro (24) correspondentes a Unidades de Conservação, ou parte delas, e três (3) Sítios Ramsar Regionais formados por Unidades de Conservação, Terras Indígenas e áreas de preservação permanente (APP).

A Convenção de Ramsar é um tratado intergovenamental que estabelece marcos para ações nacionais e para a cooperação entre países com o objetivo de promover a conservação e o uso racional de áreas úmidas no mundo.

The Site and the wider Amazon estuary and coastal basins ecoregion are extremely biodiverse and of great international importance. Around 40 species found in the Site are both nationally and globally threatened, and 21 more listed as threatened on Brazil’s Red List.
