Turning 2disc JBOD volume into RAID - NETGEAR Communities
Dec 8, 2020 · 1 volume including 2 disks. It's listed in GUI as JBOD. But i think more acurate will be to show it as RAID 0. RAID-0 and JBOD are in fact different. If you started with a one-disk volume and added a second disk, then you have JBOD. If you started with two disks, you could have created a RAID-0 volume that spanned both disks. The difference:
X-raid vs. X-raid2 - NETGEAR Communities
Sep 12, 2013 · X-RAID for your Duo (v1) uses the capacity of the smallest disk. All disks must be replaced with higher capacity disks for expansion to take place. However since your NAS units that have X-RAID2 (Ultra 2 and Duo v2) are all 2-bay you would need to replace all disks to get vertical expansion anyway.

Adding Hard Drives to RAID array. - Netgear
Apr 17, 2021 · The OS actually converts the RAID type before it does the sync, as that's how MDADM works when changing the RAID type. It's all automatic and you have to turn XRAID off if you don't want that It converts a 2-drive RAID1 to a 3-drive RAID5 that is missing a drive (and thus has no redundancy), then it syncs the new drive to fill the gap.

Jul 2, 2016 · With this disk configuration XRAID uses RAID-5. Here's a (somewhat simplified) picture of how RAID-5 redundancy works. It's a math trick. Imagine 3 blocks of data - A, B, C.
