It's used in situations (almost always within corporations, not in homes) where any downtime can't be tolerated, because the way it works is that if one drive fails the other takes over seamlessly.

May 31, 2020 · To that end, when I had my PC built four years ago I had it made with a (250Gb) SSD C drive for Windows and two 3Tb hard disks set up with Raid 1 where I keep my data. I believe that the Raid was created within the BIOS but have no technical knowledge of how that was done or how to change it.
