X drive isn’t needed imo, unless your driving in the snow most of the year then RWD on winter tires is fine, I live in Northern California and make frequent trips up to mount shasta, early in the year there had been quite a snow storm up there and my 328i rwd and it handled like gem.

May 31, 2023 · If you're not gonna be street racing from a stop or driving in snow theres no reason for xdrive on this car. My car weighs 500lbs lighter with the same engine/trans and hooks up just fine with RWD. AWD might have better resale down the line but not sure in your particular area. BMW traction control is ridiculously clever.

Lose 1/4 time going RWD but maybe lose some fun factor with xDrive? I live in S. Florida so I really don't need AWD for weather really. BMW make you move up to the M models to get this (or you can retrofit one, but they're expensive). Second, and related to the first, the RWD model seriously struggles for traction in 1st and 2nd gear, even when stock in the hot and dry. When you feel like accelerating quickly from a traffic light, the RWD isn't much fun.

Nov 27, 2022 · As someone who recently got a 2011 335d (rwd) in northern vermont, it definitely depends on where you live. If I could, I would go for x drive in a heartbeat here, as we often get snow multiple inches deep and roads aren’t super well maintained. However, I must say, it is very fun to drive a rwd when there isn’t 4 inches of snow on the roads.

While the various traction, stability and other electronic control systems do help tremendously, solid tires will ALWAYS make the difference. You never mix tire brands and types and 5-6 mm isn't that new, especially when it comes to wet traction situations.
