The Van's RV-12 is an American two-seat, single-engine, low-wing homebuilt airplane eligible for the U.S. E-LSA category, sold in kit form and as a complete ready-to-fly aircraft by Van's Aircraft of Aurora, Oregon. [4][5]

The RV–12 began as an experimental/amateur-built kit and got ASTM approval for factory production as special light sport aircraft (SLSA) in 2009. More recently, those SLSA models have been approved as commercial, instrument, and CFI trainers—and that has the potential to vastly expand their utility beyond the initial training for sport pilots.

The RV-12 cockpit can accommodate 2 seats for pilots and passengers in side-by-side configurations. The Dynon D180 cockpit is integrated with avionics suite including the Garmin SL-40 communication radio, Flightcom intercom, Artex 406 emergency locater transmitter, Garmin GTX-327 transponder and Garmin 496 global positioning system.

Jul 16, 2021 · I got my first flight in an RV this week. The 12is sure is a nice little flier! The owner even let me do a few takeoffs and landings. The castering nose wheel takes a bit of adjustment when you're accustomed to steerable nose wheels, but it is easy to figure out.

The RV-12 is powered by a Rotax 912 ULS four cylinder, horizontaly opposed, air cooled with liquid cooled cylinder heads, dual carburetors, rated at 100 HP/73.5 kW @ 5800RPM.
