Jan 4, 2021 · If there is absolutely nothing else to consider then I would choose RRSP over RPP (again, all else being equal) as an RRSP offers more flexibility, ability to withdraw from it without penalty (some employer matching is locked in though), possibility of HBP or LLL plans (if allowed by employer plan), no need for a LIRA if you leave the company, etc, etc.

Your employer has likely already accounted for that, though, in the tax they withhold from each paycheque so probably won't lead to a tax refund. You cannot claim RPP contributions in a future year (unlike RRSP).
