RG-42 fragmentation grenades replaced the RGD-33 grenades after the Russo-German war began in 1941, largely due to the predecessors' complex design which led to RGD-33 design's slow production. Each grenade contained 100 to 120 grams of TNT, and had a blast radius of about 10 meters. Each fuse was set to between 3.2 and 4.2 seconds of delay.
