The RB26DETT Z1 and Z2 (and often referred to as an "RB28DETT Z1/Z2") was the engine used in the Nissan Skyline GT-R Z-Tune built by Nismo. It uses a stronger RB26 block based on Nissan's Le Mans GT2 and GT500 racing vehicles (stamped with RRR), stroked crankshaft, upgraded turbochargers, and a higher bore and stroke at a displacement of 2.8 L.

The Neo also uses a completely redesigned cylinder head, RB26 rods and new pistons and has Solid lifters like the 26. The RB26 was produced from 1989 till it ceased production in 2002, you’re half right there.

Oct 4, 2005 · The thing i've heard about the NEO 6's and the difference between regular rb25det is, well on the RB25DET head, its got VTC which retards or advances the intake came, so variablly timed cam. Neo 6's use variable valve and lift, in thier heads, which makes up for more of the power plus i've heard the compressions are different.

GrpA rules meant standard inlet and exhaust manifolds, standard turbo size (externally standard), standard intercooler size, standard crank and rods, same basic head and block, but all else is free.

All of the differences Joe just pointed out there are also much stronger RB26 rods in there as well. yes they are somewhat difficult to gather info on but that is getting alot easier too with people such as myself modding them up.

The advantage of the RB26DETT cylinder head is in the hardware (valves, springs cams, followers, inlet, exhaust etc) attached to the cylinder head, not the head itself.
