As in, when you put your gauge on and it reads 0 psig. You can still have some R600a in the pipework and in the compressor oil.

May 10, 2011 · Following the brilliant advise, I decide to stay with using R600a despite the issues! Here's the update. I deferred ordering the R600a until I had looked at the fridge freezer. Mainly because I reasoned. What good would the R600a be to me, if I either could not find the leak or having found it repair the leak.

R600a is the dominating refrigerant for household appliances in West-Europe. I assume you need to refill a freezer or fridge at home and if so it needs only 50 to 100 grams of gas. In worst case i would look for a dry-butane (95%) same as you use to refill a cigarett lighter. I dont think you loose to much efficiency from that.

If we take -24 degrees, on a PT Chart R600a at -24 degrees should be 8.85 psi, but on my gauge with a psig I would be looking for -5.85 as you have to remove ambient pressure at 14.7 at sea level, then on my barg gauge 8.85 psi would be -0.4 barg.

Mar 17, 2021 · Wanted to share some insight as I had the opportunity to work on an R600A unit the other day. Someone stabbed the evaporator plate trying to de-ice it and punctured it, letting the 1 oz of R600A out and then calling me to see if I could fix it over the $400 replacement.

Jan 12, 2006 · Hydrocarbons such as R600a were mentioned in the CITB refrigerant handling course, but only to say it's flammable and if you reclaim it, don't pull down below atmospheric pressure as you risk pulling air into the system and if you pull enough in, an explosive mix inside the circuit could be achieved. (but that's pretty hard to do).
