Aug 13, 2015 · I had an RWA isabellina dac with R2R tech and high rez. I think the R2R was more organic or romantic that is warmer sounding which would go well with a solid state amp I think. There was synergy of course with a RWA Sig 16/Cassabria I used it with: a hybrid tube amp. Only parted with it because I needed balanced out too for my WA22.

Feb 10, 2025 · On the other hand, the DS DACs with FPGA filtering, such as Chord and PS Audio, get closer to achieving the above objectives than the R2R DAC's I've come across. They also tend in general to measure better as well. The Chord DACs seem to get the time/domain resolution right, whilst the PS Audio DAC's have amazing depth and resolution of playback.

Nov 3, 2023 · You might look into the Hifiman EF-400. It is a combination DAC/amp. According to Hifiman literature, EF-400 features a ‘himalaya’ R2R DAC. Under $500 USD. There is an ED-400 thread, I believe, here in Head-Fi.

Feb 22, 2022 · Having an R2R DAC (though chip-based) myself, I can only second that I find this type of DAC more musical than my previous Meitner DACs. As for DSD, I didn't really like it while I had my Meitner DAC, but I'm not preaching here. I respect whatever works for someone, although you may find that with an R2R DAC, you won't care much about DSD anymore
