Most of what people discuss about WW1 comes from the last year or so of the war. No one cares to make the movies about the period before there were tanks, dogfighting planes, and gas attacks. No one seems to study much about tactics when all the tactics are still being invented.

Jun 18, 2022 · I think I would have rather been in WW2 than WW1. Sitting in a trench, being drenched in poison gas, shelled into oblivion and then told to jump out and run at the enemy's trench while being showered with machine gun fire seems like a pretty terrible existence.

Jul 14, 2020 · So did Austria. You could argue Caporetto, but in the end, even with German help, Isonzo was won by Austria. Even though I despise "If x didnt happen then y would have been different" scenarios, I must say that Austria, after Isonzo, could have pushed italy over the river and into the countryside, especially after not having to worry abkut about the eastern front.

Sep 13, 2023 · The US developed Lewisite in Willoughby, Ohio, intended as a super-mustard, but since that became available only in the closing months of WW1, it did not reach the same name recognition. Indeed, the instant blistering effects of Lewisite was considered to be tactically inferior to mustard, since it would alert the troops, enabling them to avoid it.

The statistics of these wars combined totals 80-120 million deaths (not even mentioning disease) compared to the 30 years war's 12 million on the high end.
