Aug 23, 2010 · When QE2 was in two-class operation, D Stairway was the main First Class staircase. The collection of contemporary drawings / prints (including the Graham Sutherlands) selected for QE2 in 1969 hung on this staircase until being relocated to A Stairway in 1994.

A wide stairwell leads down to a wall displaying a map of the Falkland Islands with other notices to the left headed 'BBC WORLD SERVICE NEWS REPORT' and to the right headed 'ARGENTINE CASUALTY LIST'. Small groups of figures, dwarfed by the map, study the map and the notices.

Aug 4, 2009 · One deck below this photo (4 Deck) is where D stairway splits into 3 smaller stairways down to 5 Deck. One bottoms out on the STBD side passageway, the other to PORT and the last in an athwartships passageway just forward of the other two landings. The width of these stairs on 5 Deck is very narrow.

Aug 25, 2010 · QE2 deck plans portray the F Stairway lift doors opening forward on 1 and 2 Decks. Given your photos, personal account and my memory, there is only one lift landing for both of these decks which is the one shown in your photo and it clearly opens aft.

The Queen Elizabeth 2, or QE2 as she is commonly known was the flagship of the Cunard Line for over 30 years. QE2 made her maiden voyage in 1969 and is one of the last of the great Transatlantic liners. At 70,327 tons and 963 feet long with a top speed of 32.5 knots she is also one of the largest and fastest passenger vessels afloat.

The Sun Deck mid-ship stairwell contain the three tapestries of the QE2's launching in 1967 by artist Helena Banynina Hernmarch and measure 7 feet high by 21 feet long. The twin level theatre located on Upper Deck, looking forward, is a place of many lectures and film slide presentations.

NOTES: The QE2 was the flagship transatlantic liner for the Cunard Line from her launch in September 1969 until succeeded by the RMS Queen Mary 2 in 2004. James Gardner and Dennis Lennon were joint design co-ordinators for the liner.
