May 3, 2008 · Pipe dope is a gooey paste that is used on threaded pipe joints. Teflon tape is used for the same purpose, and some plumbers use both at the same time. Plumbers putty is use when installing sink drains. It is a soft putty that will compress to seal between the flange and the sink. Some new materials require silicon, but that's another question.

May 13, 2019 · The manufacturer of the new Garbage Disposal we are installing in a couple days says IF you have a stainless steel sink do not use plumber putty under the sink flange when installing, use the rubber gasket they provide instead. May 4, 2009 · I'm installing a new lift and turn bathtub drain. The new drain is packaged with a rubber gasket, and the instructions seem to show that the gasket goes underneath the drain lip (on top of the tub). The old drain had putty in that location. I've cleaned out all the old putty, and I found the ring and gasket underneath the tub intact.

Jul 27, 2008 · putty No, you should finish tightening the strainer, or rather reset it properly and then retighten it. It is oozing out because you did not tighten it enough to squeeze it out in the first place, as time goes by it "settles" itself in and pushes out some of the excess putty. You probably had too much putty and some squeezed out under the sink.

Sep 25, 2009 · Don't use Silicone, grout, plaster or putty. Putty is just some clay with oil in it. It's the worst thing you could use. Clear PolySeamSeal, it's in the painting department. The shims are in the door department. Don't buy shims in the plumbing department. Plumbers don't use them, they take about fifteen minutes to slice off.
