Jun 29, 2014 · It really does look like a piranha or something with the teeth sticking out all over the place like that! The bulldog skull behind it looks a little more dog-ish, but they both didn't really look anything like most of the breeds' skulls there. I don't think I ever would have guessed that the pug skull was even a dog if I hadn't known.

Pug breeding is NOT responsible in my opinion, in general, with the except of people strategically trying to make the breed a healthier and more humane dog. Many breeds such as corgis (another long stubby dog) that are prone to hip problems and such, will have their traits examined and rated prior to breeding.

That can be true but isn’t as reliable an indicator, the sagittal crest is a longways ridge at the top of the skull, and when pronounced, it’s suggestive of strong mandibular muscles. That hints at the stronger jaws of bulldogs. It’s super pronounced in an English, but is still there in a Frenchie, and basically nonexistent in a pug.
