Púchov District (Slovak: okres Púchov, Hungarian: Puhói járás) is a district in the Trenčín Region of western Slovakia. Until 1918, the district was part of the county of Kingdom of Hungary of Trencsén. It belongs to Upper Váh region of tourism. [3]

The Púchov culture was an archaeological culture named after site of Púchov -Skalka in Slovakia. Its probable bearer [clarification needed] was the Celtic Cotini and/or Anartes tribes. It existed in northern and central Slovakia (although it also plausibly spread to the surrounding regions) between the 2nd century BCE and the 1st century CE.

The first mentioned reference of Puchov was registered in 1243, when the King Belo IV gave out lists of owners of many different places on Slovak area. One of these men was called Puch. He established a small village and named it after himself. Púchov was probably established in 1100.
