Pteriidae - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
Pteridae, the wing oysters, comprises 12 species and 3 genera. Family Malleidae includes 5 species and 2 genera, and Isognomonidae contains 5 species, 3 varieties and one genus. The genera of Pteriidae have traditionally been defined by shell shape (Hertlein and Cox, 1969; Hayes, 1972; Habe, 1977; Oliver, 1992; Lamprell and Healy, 1998).
We describe and summarize the myalinids from Lower and Middle Permian reef and near-reef settings and infer living habits as either epifaunal or semi-infaunal byssally attached suspension feeders. The six myalinid species described are exceptionally preserved as silica pseudomorphs.

Mar 1, 2005 · To address the problem we have focused our studies on bivalve nacre, specifically in the shells of the order Pterioida. Briefly, bivalves of the order Pterioida are inequilateral (the umbones being situated anteriorly), monomyarians and inequivalves (except for the pen shells, the Pinnoidea), with the right valve usually less convex than the left.
