Polish Smog Alert is a social movement that brings together people fighting to improve air quality in Poland – the country with the most polluted air in the EU.

To date anti-smog resolutions have been passed by the authorities of 14 out of Poland’s 16 regions. This means that nearly 90% of the country is covered by anti-smog provisions to be enforced within the coming several years.

Poland is one of the most polluted countries in the EU. Around 50 thousand people, mostly the elderly, die prematurely every year from diseases linked to air pollution. This shortens life expectancy of an average Polish citizen by around 9 months.

Lowering smog alert thresholds. Polish citizens are not fully informed of dangerous air pollution situations. Among all EU states, Poland has one of the most lenient regulations in the EU for determining pollution levels and informing the general public about the scale of the problem.

Polish Smog Alert is a grassroots initiative of citizens worried about the poor quality of air in Poland. Established in January 2015, PSA now comprises around 50 local clean air grassroots organisations and is supported by the academic and medical communities.
