Aug 7, 2011 · I relate the Plexi tone to a big fat clear open tone somewhat like others mentioned early in the thread (like my Super 100JH) - not so much the Plexi tone of a 1987x stock with the 4700pf bright cap creating some serious distortion and treble in the upper left input (I removed the bright cap and it's now great to me - 100pf is good too).

Jul 8, 2020 · My theory is i can use the Plexi for most classic rock up through to early VH style stuff then kick in the diodes and a GE-7 to get more Slash level RAWK tones the other option I’m considering is the Ceriatone AFD 35, so if anyone has any experience with those pls chime in.

Dec 15, 2023 · I've owned the Plexi mini and I currently have a Direct Drive v4 (as well as GC and CBU) and I voted for the Direct Drive. They're both great, but I feel like the Barber is more flexible for different rigs/mixes and it includes a killer mode where it plays like a JTM style amp (4-hole mode, upper right switch in the middle) that stacks beautifully.

Jun 16, 2020 · Later I discovered Cream and liked the sound of Claptons tone and found out he used Plexi's so thats when I started learning that Marshall makes other amps besides the DSL 2000 amps. With the Origin or Plexi style amps, can I still get modern tones out of it or I am better off looking for a JCM 800 as some suggested I try to find used?

Jul 21, 2016 · So you should get close to 1500pF in sum with the stock cap. That won't increase the treble much, but will add some mid range, slight vintage character and more importantly it will make your hands want to jump like in AC/DC riffs which is what associated with the Plexi sound.

Apr 22, 2012 · The YJM while plexi styled also has power scaling which is a cool bonus. The Silver Jubilee always was my preference since it covered all those JCM 800 and Rock tones I covet. The plexi tones usually required a lot more volume to get me to tend promised land.

Oct 3, 2023 · When i moved to a 2x12 closed back with Greenbacks i felt the cab congested with the Plexi. Dunno if its the wattage of the speakers but i swapped em for two V-Types. Much better tone and tighter low end yet they retain that pappery/vintage midrange that Greenbacks have with less compression on the low end.

Apr 17, 2018 · 1) idealized takes on the plexi sounds in famous recordings where the amp was cranked and had a treble booster goosing the front end. Not brown sound, but way more gain than a stock plexi. 2) EVH brown sound, which is even higher gain and more compressed than option 1 with tighter bass than a stock plexi could ever get.
