Nov 12, 2008 · I don't want to just kill any excess fry, but thought the only real long term solution was to try to replicate nature by having a natural predator. In a natural environment only a few percent of fry are likely to survive. When I bought just 5 platy I assumed most of the fry would similarly be eaten by the other tank inhabitants.

Feb 13, 2004 · I've got between 4 and 6 platy fry living with 4 adult platies in a four gallon. They're about a week old, but don't seem to be growing (the fry are all 0.5 cm). I've been feeding them fry food but haven't actually seen them eat (they probably find food in the gravel though).

Mar 4, 2011 · They have grown to about an inch, but because I've had them for about 5 months, that's not a very dramatic growth. This could be the cause, I'm not sure, but I also have 2 silver molly fry in the same tank because the silver molly gave birth around the same time. The molly fry are slightly bigger, but not big enough to eat the platy fry.

Nov 8, 2006 · Hypothetical. 33 gal. heavily planted. 6 platy (2 male, 4 female). What fish would you consider to keep the fry under control? Excluding angelfish and gouramis. 4" max. Fairly peaceful, obviously plant friendly. Medium-hard water. Any recommendations welcome.
