Jun 18, 2020 · Seeing if anyone has any experience with this. Had a new patient at an oncology center today for heme consult. Patient was getting routine bloodwork for upcoming surgery and had 4 prior CBCs done - first one clumped, next one had platelet count of about 160, next 2 had platelet clumping, and one platelet on citrated tube that was resulted at 44.

May 11, 2021 · Platelet clumping in a blood sample can make the sample show as low platelets or no platelets. This is actually pretty common, and in a healthy dogs without any clinical signs, low platelets that seem to be caused by platelet clumping can usually be dismissed.

Mar 23, 2018 · Never heard of vortexing for PLT clumps. Our policy is similar to yours though except a clumping flag just means we confirm with sticks and look at the slide. If we decide the clumping is bad enough or it has a massive discrepancy between the count and the visual, we get a recollect with a blue top to be sure.

Sep 28, 2015 · Our SOP is to only use citrate specimens in hematology for a platelet count. Multiply by 1.1. That's the only reportable value. Hemoglobin and hematocrit on a heparinized specimen is the other alternative specimen. Sysmex users for decades.

Pathologist decided to see if patient clumps in a green top because the doctors need a platelet count for continuing treatment. (Unsure of diagnosis but patient is seen at cancer center) Clumping also observed on slide make from green top.

Jun 6, 2024 · Platelet clumping is very common on a "bad stick" or a blood draw when the dog is mobile during the blood draw. Totally fine, so long as your medical condition doesn't include a problem with platelets, in which case you need a "good stick" to count properly.
