An accessible walk to a tor, the moor and a village
A walk from the Wheelchair Access Group (WAGs), suitable for those using off road mobility scooters and able bodied walkers. This walk starts on Plaster Down and heads to Sandford Spiny via Pew Tor. It is on grassy tracks and some road. Level 2/3 for scooters. Date: Thursday 4th September 2025. Time: 10.30am for an 11am departure - 3pm.

Oct 8, 2006 · I'm trying to find any info on Plaster Down Camp on Dartmoor. It is (or was) situated near Tavistock. It was an American re-hab hospital in the war and was sold onto MOD. It then became Battle Camp accommodation for troops who trained at Wyvern Bks in Exeter, me being one of them in 1972.

The flat piece on moorland between Whitchurch and Horrabridge called Plaster Down was once a busy army camp run by the 115th Field Hospital Unit. The unit was formed in America in 1942 and most of the men came from New England and the mid-Atlantic states while the nurses were from mid-Atlantic and mid-west states.

Feb 10, 2016 · "Two Bridges Tor" - this granite formation in the car park opposite the Two Bridges Hotel. This feature is said to illustrate how the tors of Dartmoor were formed - the rock is eroded underground.

Dec 28, 2011 · The car park was on the edge of Plaster Down, an area requisitioned at the outbreak of WW2, later to become an American military hospital, it was last used to house Asians thrown out of Uganda at short notice by the dictator Idi Amin in 1972. 80,000 were thrown out of which 30,000 held British passports and many of them came to this country.

Mar 19, 2006 · Plaster Down is an area of flat download on the southwestern flank of Dartmoor at about 200 metres above sea level. The rock in the foreground is probably basalt which has been intruded into the country rock in places.
