Planina (pronounced [plaˈnìːna]) is a village in the Municipality of Postojna in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. [2]

Loosely translated as ‘Big Mountain’ or ‘Great Highlands’, Velika Planina is a high-elevation Alpine settlement of 63 traditional herdsmen’s huts located at an elevation between 1,500 and 1,666 metres in the heart of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps in northern Slovenia.

Planina cave is the largest water cave in Slovenia i really wanted to see the confluence of two river underground (but got much more thrown into the bargain). Rak comes from Rakov skocjan and Pivka comes from the Postojna cave (both well worth visiting as well).

The Planina polje is a classic example of a karst polje, the last of its kind in the Ljubljanica river basin. It is crossed by the river Unica, which rises in Planina Cave. If you visit it after heavy rain, you will see the incredible sight of a flooded karst polje transformed into a lake.
