Barrel porting is the process of machining holes or ports into a barrel to divert gases upwards to mitigate vertical recoil (Upwards of 40%). You should shoot significantly better with barrel ports, just like you would shooting a pistol with a trigger job.

Nov 26, 2020 · Barrel ports do one thing. They reduce muzzle rise. If that is all you are looking for, go ahead. Slit ports are not as effective as circular. Rather than what you propose, I'd go with a V4 configuration with 5/32" or 3/16" holes. If you are looking for a reduction in felt recoil, barrel ports will do nothing.

Side ports help stability in recoil when your grip isn't perfect. They also cut down total recoil. When these ports are shaped to move gasses diagonally towards you, it works like a muzzle brake.

Oct 21, 2024 · Barrel porting is when holes are milled into the top side of your pistol barrel and slide which allow expanding gasses to escape as the round leaves the barrel. The force of these gasses escaping from the top of the barrel push the gun back down.
