The series' title is a play on the words Molmot (モルモット, morumotto, the Japanese word for guinea pig) and car, which reflects the main characters. Upon its release, it was received positively by fans and critics due to its simple storyline in each episode.

You’ll hear a lot of that in Pui Pui Molcar, which uses actual piggie noises for its vehicular characters. Guinea pig owners will know the many and varied sounds well… and fair warning, our test audience of two piggies responded loudly in kind. Their little faces are perfect, too.
