PHAA is one of the diploma-granting organizations, recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to provide diplomas to graduates of Pennsylvania home education programs. When PHAA was first recognized, the PDE recognized PHAA as an accreditation agency that can accredit homeschool programs under 22 Pa Code 121.21 which states:

diplomas awarded by PHAA to graduates of Pennsylvania home education programs are not only recognized, they are also accredited. Issue 48 (Fall 1994) featured the Commencement Speech at the PHAA homeschool graduation by Joe Bard, a top official at the PA Department of Education. Issue 49 (Winter 1994-1995) featured the first ever report on how well homeschoolers do on the College Board SAT's.
