Data on PFAS in fish inform fish consumption guidance and help us understand, clean up, and prevent PFAS pollution in Minnesota. Thousands of fish from more than 200 different segments of lakes, rivers, and streams have been tested for PFAS since 2004.

Test results reveal the presence of PFAS, most commonly PFOS, in freshwater fish. The problem is widespread, affecting almost every state and in some states including several bodies of water.

The potential harm is not limited to fish, but the pollution poses health risks to communities that catch and eat the fish.
