Jan 3, 2019 · The "TWO PENCE" reverse was introduced about a decade later. The confusion probably comes from the fact that in 1983 the Royal Mint struck some Two Pence coins that still read "NEW PENCE", where the regular coins of 1983 read "TWO PENCE". This coin is valuable and worth even worn but GENUINE several hundred dollars.

Oct 6, 2020 · Ebay.co.uk has a bunch of "tricky" 2P coins for sale that are NOT the 1983 NEW PENCE type - the one that actually has value. They are NEW PENCE from years that were prior to the change in 1982 to TWO PENCE. Caveat emptor.

Jul 14, 2020 · In the mix was this 1971 New 2 Pence coin with a blank obverse. It was not machined or milled off, as it weighs exactly the same as other New 2'S in the lot. Have not found ANYTHING on the net mentioning another one.

May 24, 2021 · I bought a handful of various coinage from a world traveler's estate sale this weekend. Included is a 1971 New 2 Pence coin with a blank obverse. It has NOT been milled or machined off in any way. It weighs EXACTLY what other New 2 Pence coins do. Searched all over the net, and not a single mention of another one like it. Comments?

Sep 24, 2020 · While 2p coins are not uncommon, what makes this specific coin popular is the unique wording on it. Rather than “two pence”, the coin says “new pence” on it – as all coins produced between 1971 and 1981 did. The coin in question is from 1971, the year the new pence coins began being producted, and this gives it a special status.

Jan 24, 2019 · 1971 2 pence coin is very very common. Approximately 1.8 billion coins were struck. The coins were made when the United Kingdom was converting its money to the decimal system. A vast number of coins were needed for the conversion.

For most of these years (all?), a seasoned collector can differentiate between the Maundy and non-Maundy coins.
